The List: Latest DVDs, CDs, books, May 07

A look at some of the DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week:

DVDs

“Jack Reacher” (PG-13): A former military investigator (Tom Cruise) searches for a deadly sniper in this action tale based on the series of novels by Lee Child.

Elsewhere, when two sisters are found in a remote cabin five years after disappearing, their uncle (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his girlfriend (Jessica Chastain) suspect they’ve been accompanied by an evil presence in the horror tale “Mama” (PG-13). And a mysterious young woman (Julianne Hough) arrives in a small North Carolina town and reluctantly finds new love with a lonely widower (Josh Duhamel) in “Safe Haven” (PG-13), a romantic thriller from author Nicholas Sparks.

Topping today’s TV transfers: “Fringe: The Complete Fifth Season,” “30 Rock: Season Seven,” “Flashpoint: The Fifth Season,” “Royal Pains: Season Four,” “Private Practice: The Complete Sixth Season,” “Rookie Blue: The Complete Third Season” and volumes one and two of “Gunsmoke: The Eighth Season.”

CDs

Lady Antebellum, “Golden”: They’re the country music equivalent of mashed potatoes.

Lady Antebellum’s tunes are so mushy, they make Air Supply seem like Cannibal Corpse by comparison.

Ready for another warm, squishy pile of the stuff?
