The List: Latest DVDs, CDs, books, March 12

A look at some of the DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week:

DVDs

“Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away” (PG): An audience member (Erica Linz) and a circus aerialist (Igor Zaripov) are transported to the magical realm where “Believe,” “Ka,” “Love,” “Mystere,” “O” and “Zumanity” live — and where “Viva Elvis” was never shut down — in this salute to the Strip’s Cirque shows.

Elsewhere, a young zookeeper’s son (Suraj Sharma) survives a shipwreck only to be lost at sea, trapped in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger, in “Life of Pi” (PG), which just picked up four Oscars, including best director for Ang Lee. The romance between Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) and his wife and collaborator, Alma Reville (Helen Mirren), is explored, using the filming of “Psycho” as a framework, in “Hitchcock” (PG-13). And Santa Claus (voiced by Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher), Jack Frost (Chris Pine) and the silent Sandman team up to save the world from the evil Pitch (Jude Law) in the animated “Rise of the Guardians” (PG).

Topping today’s TV transfers: BBC America’s “Ripper Street,” “Law & Order: Criminal Intent: The Final Year,” “The Mob Doctor: The Complete Series,” “Xena: Warrior Princess: The Complete Fourth Season,” “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys: The Complete Fourth Season,” “SpongeBob SquarePants: The Complete Eighth Season,” “Pioneers of Television: Season Three,” “Father Dowling Mysteries: The Third and Final Season” and “Life & Legend of Wyatt Earp: Season Two.”
