Jason Segel stars in ‘Jeff’

The movie: “Jeff, Who Lives at Home”

When: Opening Friday at Green Valley Ranch, Suncoast

Cast: Jason Segel, Ed Helms, Susan Sarandon, Judy Greer

Directors: Jay and Mark Duplass

The story: Finally venturing forth from his basement room to run a birthday errand for his widowed mother, the title slacker gets sidetracked by his older brother Pat — who enlists Jeff to help him trail his possibly adulterous wife.

The buzz: Mumblecore stalwarts, the filmmaking Duplass brothers (“The Puffy Chair,” “Baghead”) follow 2010’s indie hit “Cyrus” with another comedy that focuses on an arrested-development protagonist — with a remarkably tolerant mother.
