‘Immortals’ a 3-D fantasy

The movie: “Immortals”

When: Opening Friday at local theaters

Cast: Henry Cavill, Freida Pinto, Mickey Rourke, John Hurt, Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz

Director: Tarsem Singh

The story: Declaring war against humanity, power-mad King Hyperion scours Greece for the legendary Epirus Bow, which will enable him to unleash the Titans from their prison in Mount Tartaros — and annihilate the gods, who are forbidden to intervene in human conflict. So it’s up to the peasant Theseus, secretly chosen by Zeus, to stop Hyperion and save humanity.

The buzz: Greek mythology inspires yet another brawny 3-D fantasy, this one from “300” producer Mark Canton. It also provides a showcase for future “Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill — that is, for those who missed the handsome Brit in TV’s “The Tudors” and such movies as “Stardust,” “Red Riding Hood,” “I Capture the Castle” and Woody Allen’s “Whatever Works.”
