Chris Evans stars as Captain America

The movie: "Captain America: The First Avenger"

When: Opening Friday at local theaters

Cast: Chris Evans, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper

Director: Joe Johnston

The story: After being declared unfit for World War II military service, Steve Rogers volunteers for a top-secret research project that transforms him into a superhero soldier.

The buzz: Chris Evans (who played "The Fantastic Four’s" Johnny Storm, alias the Human Torch, in two movies) takes on another comic-book character. Director Joe Johnston also has comic-book movie experience, thanks to 1991’s "The Rocketeer," in which the title character finds a rocket pack created by Howard Hughes — who inspired the character of Howard Stark (alias "Iron Man’s" dad), who turns up here to provide Captain America with his iconic shield.
