In Case You Missed It: Angelina Jolie a scary Maleficent

Finally.

It’s about time we learn why one of Disney’s most evil villains is so determined to destroy the life of one of its most famous princesses.

Disney released the first official trailer for “Maleficent,” which stars Angelina Jolie as the villainess from “Sleeping Beauty” and Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora.

According to Disney, the movie is the untold story of the sorceress and “reveals the events that hardened Maleficent’s heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora.”

Intriguing, to say the least.

The movie seems to have all the elements of the 1959 original — fairies, Diablo the crow and a spinning wheel — but obviously the attention is squarely on the figure lurking in the shadows.

“I know who you are. You’ve been watching over me my whole life,” Auror says in the trailer. “I know you’re there. Your shadow, it’s been following me ever since I was small. Don’t be afraid.”

Aurora, aka Briar Rose, then encourages the shadowy figure to “come out.” To which Maleficent replies, “Then you’ll be afraid.”

Yep, that’s a shiver up your spine.

The movie opens May 30 and also marks the acting debut of Jolie’s youngest daughter, Vivienne, 5, who plays the young Aurora.
