Rainbow Company focuses on family

A man remembers the summer when he turned 12 years old and the discovery, with his grandfather, of what it means to have a family in “One to Grow On.”

The play is being presented by the Rainbow Company Youth Theatre this weekend in the Reed Whipple Cultural Center’s studio theater, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Several Rainbow Company alumni are featured, including director Scott Davidson. Kirk Stowers, who plays the boy’s father, was the boy in Rainbow’s original production, and Joe Maloney, who portrays the boy as a man in this production, also has played the boy.

The cast also includes Ken Kucan, Joel Ruud, Stefan Martin, Christine Moore, Painter Baarsma and Karen Fedelleck.

Costume design is by alumna Tara Speck, who was assisted by current ensemble members. Ensemble members also designed and constructed the set.

Performances are at 7 p.m. today and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The show continues April 12-15.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for teens and seniors, and $3 for children age 12 and younger.
