Abbey short film presented at FLIC series

The Featuring Local Independent Filmmakers (FLIC) series presents “Monkey Park,” a film produced by Joshua Abbey and starring Amanda Plummer and Tim Roth, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Winchester Cultural Center Theater, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.

“Monkey Park” was Abbey’s graduate thesis project at the American Film Institute, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in producing. The film was adapted from a short story of the same name by Madison Smart Bell and directed by Anthony Haney Jardine.

The 30-minute short was made in 1993, and the plot centers on a deviant brother, played by Roth, who comes to visit his sister and brother-in-law played by Plummer and Ray Wise. The story unfolds when they party together at an abandoned zoo called Monkey Park.

Abbey is the executive director of the Las Vegas-based Desert Space Foundation, a nonprofit organization that produces cultural programs including the Las Vegas Jewish Film Festival.

Tickets are $3. For more information, call 455-7340.

The demonstration will include a short lecture about kendo. Demonstrations include those by students and masters young and old.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and children 12 and younger.
