Wolfgang Puck receives star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, who brought Spago to our city as the first star-chef restaurant 25 years ago, was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His wife, Gelila, and sons, Oliver, Alexander, Byron and Cameron, hosted a star-studded celebration at the flagship Spago in Beverly Hills, California.
Among those attending from Las Vegas were Larry and Camille Ruvo and renowned architect Frank Gehry, who designed their Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Downtown Las Vegas.
Other guests last Wednesday in Hollywood included Berry Gordy, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, George Schlatter, David Foster, Mo Ostin, Les Moonves and his wife, Julie Chen, who hosts “Big Brother” on CBS.
Devon Aoki even got Wolf on the dance floor to the music of DJs Calvin Harris and Avicii. A Walk of Fame star cake was presented to Wolf, who had the entire night off from the kitchen. His son Oliver took over DJ duties for late-night partygoers.
WORLD WISH DAY
For Make-a-Wish’s annual World Wish Day that honors and recognizes everyone involved in making wishes possible, Topgolf at MGM Grand helped Make-a-Wish of Southern Nevada host a special wish come true. Jacob, a 10-year-old who loves to play video games and spend time with his siblings, thought that his family and he were simply attending a party at Topgolf.
A few months ago, Jacob was diagnosed with a rare, inoperable brain tumor called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. After intense treatments, the family tirelessly searches for clinical trials that will accept his condition, and Jacob deserved a break from his routine and frequent doctors’ visits.
Make-a-Wish and Topgolf gave him a chance to be a young boy again and experience the hope, strength and joy a wish provides. After playing golf and enjoying a pizza party, he was surprised with the news that his wish of traveling to Legoland in Florida with his family is coming true.
HEART OF EDUCATION AWARDS
Twenty Clark County School District educators were honored at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts as the winners of the 2017 Heart of Education Awards. In its second year, The Rogers Foundation event recognized CCSD educators who have made exceptional efforts for their students and significantly contributed to their education and overall lives.
Additionally, four teachers were awarded with the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s People’s Choice Award. There were more than 900 finalists at the red carpet gala that included surprise keynote speaker Dr. Jill Biden, wife of former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden. She said: “During the Obama-Biden administration, I had the opportunity to meet with incredible people from around the world.
“Artists, creators and scientists who change the way we see the world, presidents and monarchs whose decisions changed millions of lives. But when I think about the people who are truly shaping the future, I don’t think about those luminaries or world leaders. I think of a room like this full of people like you. I think of teachers.”
Each of the 20 winners received a Heart of Education medallion and $5,000. Each winner’s respective school also received $1,000 to benefit a program of the teacher’s choice. The RJ’s People’s Choice Awards winners received $2,500.
