Wicked Whisper + Racy Rumor: EDM show to replace ‘Jersey Boys’ at Paris Las Vegas?

A Wicked Whisper + Racy Rumor exclusive today!

Could the thumping backbeat of electric dance music that has dominated the Las Vegas nightclub scene and made megabucks superstars out of transplants such as DJs Tiesto, Calvin Harris and Afrojack be the basis of a hit Broadway musical?

Would an EDM megastar story be as successful for younger audiences in a theater surrounding as Celine Dion is with her fans at Caesars Palace? Could EDM and its rich DJs form the script and story just like Cirque du Soleil managed to produce for The Beatles and their music of the 1960s in LOVE at The Mirage?

I’m hearing first whispers that New York and Los Angeles producers have kicked around the idea and have pitched it to angel investors for funding a show that could soon replace JERSEY BOYS, which exits Paris Las Vegas on Sunday night after a nearly nine-year run on the Las Vegas Strip.

It’s a case of out with the old of “Sherry” and “Walk Like a Man” and a possible in with the new, modern-day sounds of Calvin’s “This Is What You Came For” and Tiesto’s “Red Lights” and “Wasted.”

This is the latest performance idea to stem the tide of sinking shows on the Strip —

14 as of this month. There’s a possibility that another five will close before year’s end, making it the most disastrous year ever for Las Vegas productions.

I’m carefully watching this story develop, and I hope that after Sunday’s closing of JERSEY BOYS, I can reveal the identity of the sultan of the steel wheels who will be the subject of a jukebox musical.
