Hometown heroes The Killers have announced that the vinyl reissue of their sophomore album, “Sam’s Town,” will be released by Bong Load Records on Oct. 7. One of the two bonus tracks featured on the reissue, the never-before-released “Sam’s Town” era demo “Peace of Mind,” also will be available as a digital single Oct. 7.
The Killers — Brandon Flowers on vocals and keyboards, Dave Keuning on guitars, Mark Stoermer on bass and Ronnie Vannucci on drums — also have announced a travel package for the “Sam’s Town” Decennial Extravaganza at Sam’s Town in Las Vegas on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
The package includes a one-night premium stay at Sam’s Town, concert tickets, a Killers-themed dinner for two before the concert and memorabilia, including two copies of the 10th anniversary vinyl reissue. The package goes on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
Profits from the extravaganza go to Las Vegas charities Toni’s House and First Friday Foundation, which support recovery for the homeless and those struggling with addiction and bring arts and culture initiatives to underserved communities, respectively.
“The closest thing I can get to the fountain of youth is playing ‘Sam’s Town’ at Sam’s Town,” Vannucci said in the news release.
The “Sam’s Town” Decennial Extravaganza will feature performances by The Killers on Friday and Saturday nights; opportunities to explore the band’s history, including an expert-led tour of The Killers’ Las Vegas; and VIP experiences such as a private two-song show before the main performance.
The Killers released “Sam’s Town” in 2006, a love letter to their hometown that was an RIAA platinum hit upon release, spent 42 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 and featured the hits “When You Were Young” (nominated for two Grammy Awards) and “Read My Mind.”
Produced by Flood (U2, Depeche Mode) and Alan Moulder (The Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails) and accompanied by imagery by photographer Anton Corbijn, who shot the cover of U2’s “The Joshua Tree,” “Sam’s Town” found The Killers adding a Bruce Springsteen-inspired Americana influence to their modern New Wave sound.
Rolling Stone readers recently named “Sam’s Town” the most underrated album of the last 10 years. Since the release of “Sam’s Town,” The Killers have released two studio albums — “Day & Age” and “Battle Born” — and the B-side collection, “Sawdust.”
