Kendra Wilkinson Baskett: ‘I am beyond nervous’ about ‘Sex Tips’

In her first interview about the new show “Sex Tips for Straight Women From a Gay Man” that she’s bringing to the Strip, Playboy centerfold and reality-TV star Kendra Wilkinson Baskett admitted: “I am beyond nervous. I have the worst stage fright ever. I was kicked out of drama classes at school because I was so bad.
“But after 13 seasons of doing reality shows, I’m ready for the change. This will be a big test for me. I’m taking it very seriously, and I have a drama coach, so I’ve been studying. Until now, my only acting was in ‘Sharknado,’ and you could hardly call that … so this is a completely different ballgame. It’s the biggest thing I’ll ever do in my life.”
Kendra (“The Girls Next Door,” “Kendra on Top”) told me this afternoon that she loved the show when she went to see it Off Broadway in New York. “It was a fun night out, and the show is very well put together. It actually changed our married life.” Kendra is married to Hank Baskett III, former wide receiver for The Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts.
“I’ll be very honest, Robin. Being married nine years, it sometimes gets stale. I’ll admit it. But my husband has been very supportive of this, and it’s certainly spiced up our married life. We’ve taken those sex tips to heart, and it’s really helped us. Our sex life has really improved.
“Having a gay man pass on sex tips makes sense. If it was coming from a straight man, it would be weird, so here instead of it being perverted, it’s actually helping you. How to give oral sex is a whole new ballgame.”
Kendra was completely candid: “Just because I posed nude doesn’t mean I was a wild one. I’m a big-time free spirit, and I’m all about being naked and totally comfortable talking about sex, but this is going to be really cool going much further forward in empowering women to be in a comfort zone with their sexuality.
“As a married woman with two babies, I know firsthand the first year is a honeymoon year because the sex is fresh and new. But after you have babies and you see each other every day, it all becomes a routine. It all fades out a little bit.
“The babies come first, then the house, then the duties, then the family, then the marriage and the husband, but the sex comes last. That’s all changed now between Hank and myself because of the ‘Sex Tips’ show.
“Sex is very important to explore. Sex is natural, and we have to take care of it with each other. It’s taught me to open up, and I want this to be an empowering role for women to have fun with their own sexuality. My job is to teach women to learn to open up.”
Kendra admits that she relates to the role of the staid professor who learns to open up sexually while talking to the gay author of the sex book in which the play is based. Jai Rodriguez of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” fame portrays author Dan Anderson in “Sex Tips.”
“I swear that I learned 100 percent to be a new girl,” Kendra summed up. “I had to experience for myself what she learned in the play, and, boy, did I ever. Hank and I are having a whole new life.”
