Is Women of Wrestling headed to our city now that Las Vegas producer Rand Capp has it as a regular presentation at historic Belasco Theater in Los Angeles? His next WOW bouts there are May 11. Here’s a YouTube video of when Daughters of Darkness fought The Beach Patrol:
Women’s wrestling is enjoying a resurgence in interest and fans with the Los Angeles matches. Last week, Rand’s WOW formed a strategic partnership with MGM Television Group to develop new content across a range of unscripted programming and digital formats.
MGM TV is under the direction of its president, Mark Burnett, who is the genius behind such unscripted hit-TV series including “Survivor,” “The Voice” and “Shark Tank.”
BOOK SCOOPS
* Supermodel and actress Joan Severance, who lived in Henderson, launched today her first book, “Manifest Your Man,” a must read for anyone looking for a soulmate. Joan empowers women to learn how to set their sights on what they want in a man, stick to their boundaries and use positive, intentional thoughts.
Call it a journal with her stories and advice for women of all ages. Joan, known for having some of the best hair in modeling, currently appears on Vogue.com’s Beauty Videos to share her beauty secrets for women to look radiant at every age. My friend of 30 years also teamed up with her hairdresser of 30 years, Mauro Spina, on a line of healthy organic hair care products.
Joan, whose credits “Wiseguy” with Ken Wahl and Kevin Spacey, “CSI Miami,” “NCIS Los Angeles” and “Red Shoe Diaries,” is already at work on a second book. “Manifest Your Man” is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and JoanSeverance.com.
* Restaurateur Elizabeth Blau and husband chef Kim Canteenwalla have their first cookbook en route to publishers for a fall release. They’ve produced a culinary tome, “Honey Salt Culinary Scrapbook,” a behind-the-scenes journey of what inspired them to launch their first bistro on Fort Apache.
It includes their trip last year to Tuscany, which inspires them for five restaurants they are opening at the end of September at The Park Hotel in Vancouver, B.C., for Paragon Gaming and two Buddy V’s in Texas. Elizabeth and Kim are owners of Andiron Steak and Sea in Downtown Summerlin. My interview with them will appear in the June issue of Luxury Las Vegas.
PHILANTHROPIST OF THE YEAR
Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck was honored as Philanthropist of the Year at the 17th Annual Governor’s Black Tie reception at Southern Highlands Golf Club. Gov. Brian Sandoval spoke about the 17-year history of Southern Highlands Charitable Foundation, which donated $50,000 to our Keep Memory Alive.
Wolf is the key chef along with Michael Mina at Thursday’s KMA “Power of Love Gala” at MGM Grand Garden Arena featuring Gwen Stefani and Jon Bon Jovi. Wolf spoke of his commitment to KMA and 25-year history operating Spago at The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. His Spago, Cut at The Palazzo, Lupo at Mandalay Bay and Bar & Grill at Aria and MGM Grand catered the dinner.
On Wednesday, Wolf is honored with a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame, then flies here for “Power of Love” and a 25th anniversary Spago luncheon as part of Vegas Uncork’d.
SAD TO SAY GOODBYE
One of the best suburban restaurants in town — and one of my favorites — has shut its doors. The View at Tivoli Village has closed along with all the other retailers of the second floor above Brio. The landlord gave the other mezzanine tenants the opportunity to take over vacant spaces on the ground floor, which all of them accepted except for The View.
DATE CHANGES
Out of respect for Las Vegas singer Clint Holmes’ birthday and opening night of his Golden Nugget residency starting May 9, “Sexxy” producer and star Jennifer Romas has moved the launch of her “Summer of Sexxy” at Westgate to May 8. “Nobody should miss Clint,” said Jenn. “This was the easiest solution, and you can now see both of us!”
