Highlights of the week ahead: ‘American in Paris’ at Smith Center, Steely Dan at The Venetian

Monday, April 10

Billy Bob Thornton and his Boxmasters end a two-night run at Myron’s Cabaret Jazz at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts.

DJ CLA spins fan-favorite beats in her gig at The Dorsey at The Venetian.

Tuesday, April 11

The wondrous “An American in Paris” by composer George Gershwin transforms from a six-time Oscar-winning Hollywood musical into an onstage masterpiece at The Smith Center for a week’s run with an amazing 17-minute ballet finale.

It’s an incredible “golden-hour sunset” photo opportunity for amateurs to shoot pictures amid the collection of iconic neon signs. Jerome Hamilton will supervise a pin-up model-styled workshop at The Neon Museum Boneyard.

Wednesday, April 12

Steely Dan kicks off a nine-show residency, “Reeling in the Chips,” at The Venetian through April 29. The epic performances mark the first time in years since Donald Fagen and Walter Becker have had West Coast performance dates.

It’s the ultimate DJ showdown as new sultans of spin compete against three previous winners of “I’m With the DJ” at Chateau Nightclub at Paris Las Vegas. DJ Carolina Connect, J-Day and Omeezy will take on contenders who want to headline at Chateau this summer.

Thursday, April 13

Celebrity chef of shorts and orange Crocs fame Mario Batali celebrates the 10th anniversary of his B&B Ristorante and Otto Enoteca E Pizzeria at The Venetian with a delicious decade menu and monthlong specials.

Harrah’s headliners Tenors of Rock lead the American Red Cross blood drive on World Rock and Roll Day at Smiths on East Centennial Parkway. The British vocalists also will offer dining coupons at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill at Harrah’s.

Friday, April 14

Mel Torme’s velvet voice lives on with his son Steve March-Torme and The Touchstones at Myron’s Cabaret Jazz.

The 2017 Polaris RZR UTV world championships powered by Monster Energy is the biggest UTV race in the world and returns to Laughlin through Saturday.

Saturday, April 15

Kool & The Gang headlines at The Tropicana as part of the hotel’s 60th anniversary.

Four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler of Las Vegas hosts his Desert Classic at The Hard Rock Hotel.

And Empire of the Sun and The Avalanches headline The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
