ENTERTAINMENT: Tropicana showroom back in business
The Tropicana’s dormant showroom is on its way back to what a new operator promises will be a very busy life.
The Tiffany Theatre will be operated in a lease-management agreement by Eagle Group Holdings, which is also behind the Las Vegas Mob Experience set to open at the Tropicana in December.
The first show, “Yesterday — A Tribute to the Beatles” opens Nov. 2. It may be joined by as many as five other titles, says managing partner Jay Bloom.
Bloom says he is hoping to produce “a number of shows over the course of a day. I have a financial background and it’s all about asset utilization.”
Bloom did not confirm or deny reports of a Gloria Estefan-themed revue for the showroom that hosted “Folies Bergere” for 49 years. “Until we announce the lineup I can’t announce what’s in it and what’s not in it,” he said. “Over the course of the next 30 days the lineup of the showroom will become very clear.”
Bloom’s group has put in a new sound system and improved the lighting equipment. But the room otherwise still awaits the major remodeling that’s been talked about since “Folies” closed in March of last year.
Bloom says his company will introduce a new distribution method for ticket sales on the Strip, which he could not detail out of competition concerns. “We have a way to move tickets to people who aren’t currently getting tickets,” he says.
“I guess you could say we’re increasing the market more so than cannibalizing other existing shows. … We’re increasing the size of the pie, not necessarily taking somebody else’s piece.”
