Bruno Mars returning solo residency to Dolby Live

Updated October 25, 2022 - 7:01 pm

Bruno Mars has drawn a 10 for 2023 at Dolby Live.

The popular pop superstar has added that many shows in January and February at the Park MGM theater. As anticipated, Mars’ two New Year’s Eve shows forecast his residency extension. The dates run from Jan. 25 to Valentine’s Day. Tickets start at $99.50 (not including fees), on sale 10 a.m. Friday at Ticketmaster.com

Mars has headlined at Park Theater, later renamed Dolby Live, since New Year’s Eve 2016. His Silk Sonic partnership with Anderson .Paak was a hot-selling residency, as crowds responded to the show’s ’70s-funk vibe.

Consistently, the response was rampant grooving.

Expect a retooled show, as Mars performed essentially the same rocking production from 2017-2020. Expect “24K Magic,” “When I Was Your Man,” “Locked Out of Heaven” and “Uptown Funk” (which some Vegas musicians refer to as “the national anthem,” for its ubiquitousness).

We hope Mars also retains “I Took Your Phones Away,” his anthem to locking up cell phones, which would be a classic if ever recorded.

Garrett to “Bupkis”

Tall funny man and able actor Brad Garrett has been cast in Pete Davidson’s new Peacock comedy series “Bupkis.” Garrett is reuniting with Ray Romano on the project. The two co-starred in the hit sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond” from 1996-2005.

Ever since, Garrett has bemoaned the fact that, “I spent all my Raymond money!” and is forced to toil across from the food court at his MGM Grand comedy club. The fact that Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club actually a very cool hang apparently doesn’t work for comedy.

Elsewhere in “Bupkis,” Davidson has co-written the series Dave Sirus and Judah Miller. The ex-“SNL” regular (among many other identifying references) plays a character based on himself. Edie Falco portrays his mother. Joe Pesci has taken on the role of grandfather, the latest diversion from his quasi-retirement announced some 23 years ago.

Charlie Day (“Always Sunny in Philadelphia”), Chase Sui Wonders (“Bodies, Bodies, Bodies”) and Simon Rex (“Red Rocket”) are also signed for the series. The roles have yet to be announced. The show has been likened to “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” with adult themes and storytelling.

Garrett applies the same approach in his act, if “storytelling” can mean “unbridled insults.” He returns as host Nov. 3-Nov. 5. Catch him, and also the live music out front.

Great Moments in Social Media

Incoming Colosseum at Caesars Palace headliner Adele teased to her new video for “I Drink Wine” on Tuesday. The clip is due Wednesday. The 8-second clip shows the superstar performing in a scene set with a bridge, a creek and sunset in the background.

Adele is shown on a boat, which runs under the bridge, where a pianist is plinking away. This would seem a good effect to duplicate in “Weekends With Adele,” but aquatic effects have already been tried.

What Works in Vegas

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” screenings at The Portal at Area15. This weekend’s dates sold out, but Nov. 3 is still available. Go to Area15.com for info, and bring your own toast, we presume. And remember, it’s not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.

Tease this …

Fremont Street Experience is announcing its New Year’s Eve entertainment roster at noon Thursday. When the city is running full-tilt, FSE is an enticing destination for locals and tourists. It’s also, in a word, nuts.

And this …

Like Santa gunning his sled across the skies, a big Christmas production is zeroing in on a prominent Las Vegas venue. Fans of holiday themes and talented entertainment professionals will be tickled.

And this …

A yacht rock act of excellent pedigree is navigating its way to an off-Strip residency.

Cool Hang Alert

David Tatlock’s Soul Juice Band headlines Sunset Station’s Club Madrid from 8 p.m.-11 p.m. Friday. This is a powerhouse ensemble, bringing the horn-powered funk. Speaking of horns, Tatlock’s 1979 Datsun 620 pickup has been rebuilt to “cruising condition,” so look for that baby on the streets.
