Taste of the Town: Readers come through with tips on peanut flour sources

For Pauline Eikel, who’s looking for a peanut-flour peanut butter that has half the calories of regular peanut butter and that she found at Smith’s, readers have two suggestions.

The first is PB2, a powdered peanut butter. Laurie Brenner, who said she finds it at Smith’s at 8050 S. Rainbow Blvd., Wal-Mart, www.Amazon.com and www.BellPlantation.com, said the Bell Plantation product is free of preservatives and artificial sweeteners, “and in the case of PB2 and Chocolate PB2, you won’t find 85 percent of the fat calories of regular peanut butter. You just mix it with water.” She added that she buys bricks instead of jars from Amazon, “more economical, and I don’t run out.” Verna Smith wrote that Whole Foods Market at 100 S. Green Valley Parkway in Henderson carries two varieties of peanut flour (there are three other Whole Foods locations in the valley); she also suggested the Vitamin Shop at 1205 W. Sunset Road, which she said carries regular and chocolate powdered peanut butter. And Andrea Drasner recommends Better N Peanut Butter from Trader Joe’s, which has four stores in the valley. …

For Keith Thomas, who’s looking for Pearson’s Original Salted Nut Rolls, Kelly Beeson of Mesquite reported finding them at her local Smith’s, and Valerie Punelli, manager of the IFA Country Store, 3176 W. Martin Ave., emailed that her store carries them. …

For Delores Bruce, who’s looking for kluski noodles, Jaci Look, owner of A Simple Life at 5025 S. Eastern Ave., emailed that she carries them, along with 11 other noodles. Laura Crowton emailed that she has bought them — though not recently — at Sprouts Farmers Market at 4020 S. Rainbow Blvd.; there’s another Sprouts at 3365 E. Tropicana Ave. …

And for readers looking for regional favorites from the upper Midwest, Look said A Simple Life carries 13 specialty bratwurst sausages, 42 types of Wisconsin cheeses and a “wall” of soups, in addition to the Midwestern pasties I mentioned recently. …

More on vinegar-based barbecue sauces: Leslie Hall, who started the search, emailed to say she found what she was looking for in Guy Fieri’s line at Smith’s. Karen Galowitch also recommended Fieri’s sauces. …
