Taste of the Town: A live one over liver: Reader recommendations roll in for favorite dish

Regular readers of this column know I never repeat the lead item; requests that come in after the first batch usually end up in the “More on …” section toward the end. But this liver and onions thing is just nuts. Last week, six readers recommended six places for Tom Richards, who’s looking for good, reasonably priced liver and onions. This week, five more readers have five more suggestions.

Gerry Baxter recommended the Skyline Casino at 1741 N. Boulder Highway in Henderson “for the best liver and onions he’ll ever have,” Ron Oltmanns recommended the Sourdough Cafe at Arizona Charlie’s Decatur at 740 S. Decatur Blvd., Kathy Meek endorsed the “best” liver and onions served at the Hometown Cafe at the Silver Nugget at 2140 Las Vegas Blvd. North in North Las Vegas, Brent Perry Shaw likes the dish at Maddy’s Place at the Poker Palace at 2757 Las Vegas Blvd. North in North Las Vegas and Betty Baron recommends the Grand Cafe at Santa Fe Station, 4949 N. Rancho Drive, adding, “I brought home enough for two more dinners.”…

For George Urias, who’s looking for frozen breaded clam strips, Shirley Colucci emailed that she found the Sea Pak brand at Wal-Mart Supercenter at 3615 S. Rainbow Blvd. and Ann Brown faxed that she found them at Glazier’s Food Marketplace, 8525 W. Warm Springs Road. …

For Ruth Hauser, who’s looking for Colavita Fettucine Nests, George Oliver reported finding them at the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 6464 N. Decatur Blvd. and Michele Bonelli emailed that the egg and spinach varieties are available at Cugino’s Italian Deli, 4550 S. Maryland Parkway. …

More on hot buttered rum mix: Gwen Dawson found Trader Vic’s Tom &Jerry Mix — which makes another warm, rum-based drink — at Albertsons at 1650 N. Buffalo Drive. And Beverly Villeneuve emailed this simple recipe:

HOT BUTTERED RUM MIX

1 pound light brown sugar

1 stick butter

1 teaspoon ground cloves

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Mix together and store in the refrigerator. Place 1 heaping tablespoon in a cup of boiling water; add rum to taste.
