Readers uncover brick chili, tamales

Among the things that make Taste of the Town work: Sometimes, an item that has disappeared from a neighborhood store can be found in somebody else’s neighborhood.

For DeAnn Dickinson, who is trying to find XLT tamales and brick chili, which she used to get at Smith’s, Mike O’Brien e-mailed that both items are carried at Vons at 7530 W. Lake Mead Blvd. John Hillbrook said both items can be found at Albertsons, and added he has seen the tamales at Smart & Final. And Rose Rocco said she found both at Food 4 Less at 8180 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

“If you haven’t used this brick chili on hot dogs, you haven’t lived,” O’Brien added. …

For Kay Barlaj, who is looking for a good Belgian waffle mix, Carol DeSimone and D. Wyatt both suggested Krusteaz, which DeSimone has found at Smith’s at 1000 N. Green Valley Parkway and at Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market at 1401 American Pacific Drive, both in Henderson; Wyatt has found it at Sam’s Club.

“Be sure to use ice water, and add a little cinnamon,” Wyatt added. …
