Readers to the rescue in sausage search

For Earl Hoy, who’s looking for Portuguese sausage, fellow readers have not only local sources but also a brand recommendation.

The best, maintains Jeanne Brase, is Silva, which she said can be found at Wal-Mart or Vons. Tita Keliipio said Silva’s also available, in both regular and spicy, at Food 4 Less. Rae Pattison e-mailed that Portuguese sausage can be found “in 14 of the Walgreens stores that have a Hawaiian food section” and in some CVS stores with Hawaiian sections. Denise A. Pilkington also suggested Walgreens, and said she has found two brands there. And Ron Lutz of The Butcher Block, 7625 S. Rainbow Blvd., and the Jensens of Village Meat & Wine, 5025 S. Eastern Ave., said they carry it as well. …

For Kathy Smith, who’s looking for veal bratwurst, Lutz and the Jensens said they carry that, too. …

For Glenn Kulich, who’s looking for Jim Beam Steak Sauce, Randy Kerstens of Glaziers Food Marketplace, 8525 W. Warm Springs Road, said he carries it, and Village Meat does, too. …

For Linda Morelli, who’s looking for Snyder’s of Hanover Old Tyme Pretzels, Jan Pacini e-mailed that she found them at Albertsons at 10250 W. Charleston Blvd. and the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 5200 S. Fort Apache Road; Peg McKelvie found them at Albertsons at 3010 W. Ann Road and Target at 7090 N. Fifth St., both in North Las Vegas; Lynn Allard and William T. Raley suggested Smith’s; and Bob Holzlohner, the Nellis Air Force Base commissary, for which Morelli would need base access. …

For Andrea Noonoo, who’s looking for vanilla powder similar to that offered at Starbucks, McKelvie wrote that she found it at the Williams-Sonoma Marketplace at the Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas in Primm. …

More on pierogi: John Wasinger recommended those from Schwan’s delivery trucks; service can be arranged at www.Schwans.com or (888) 724-9267. …
