Readers spill beans on crawfish sources
March 16, 2011 - 1:05 am
Mudbugs? You can call ’em that if you want, but I think “crawfish” sounds a lot more appetizing. And for Gloria Stanek, fellow readers are happy to give up their local sources for them.
Jan Visser, Paula Garriott, Ethel Dubuc and Dean B. Pomerantz all said the frozen tails can be found at local Walmarts. The Jensens at Village Meat & Wine, 5025 S. Eastern Ave., said they carry them as well, and Ron Lutz at The Butcher Block at 7625 S. Rainbow Blvd. does, too. …
For Gloria Bransky, Libby Casolari e-mailed that beef tongue is available at 168 Market at 3459 S. Jones Blvd., and Lutz said he carries it as well. …
For Bill Groben, Lutz said he carries frozen Great Lakes perch. …
For Susan Huffman, Barb Roth said she can find Inglehoffer dill mustard at Glazier’s Food Marketplace, 8525 W. Warm Springs Road, and the Jensens said they carry it. …
For Dennis Kelley, who’s looking for a restaurant that serves calamari strips, Judianne Olson and Elizabeth Witte recommended The Claim Jumper and Aaron Mantz recommended Olive Garden. …
For Wendy Kidd, who’s looking for fried clam strips or a fried clam basket in the Henderson area, Witte suggested Long John Silver and Dave Levesque suggested Red Lobster. Levesque also recommended the whole-bellied clams at Not Your Average Deli at 4850 W. Sunset Road and Lazy Joe’s Fish and Chips at 7835 S. Rainbow Blvd. …
For Barbara Gregory-Pearlman, who’s looking for fresh kaffir lime leaves, Lisa Levine suggested 168 Market, Susy Wiley and Klaus Bremer found them at 99 Ranch Market in the China Town Plaza at 4155 Spring Mountain Road. Bremer also suggested Bangkok Market at 4825 W. Flamingo Road and Wiley also suggested G’s Oriental Market at 4109 W. Sahara Ave. …
And Bremer said German expatriates will want to know that Herzer cheese is available at the International Marketplace, 5000 S. Decatur Blvd. …
