Readers get potpies in stores and by mail

Despite last week’s blast of blustery weather there’s no doubt we’ll soon herald the arrival of spring, which is not a time when most of us crave hearty foods like potpies. So I’m going to hurry up and run some suggestions — for good frozen versions — for Jim Guynup from fellow readers.

Keith Marquardt, Marianne Hein and Roberta Shulman recommended Trader Joe’s, and Bob Drabicki, who represents Winder Farms, emailed that the company delivers them (call 682-0392). …

For Karen Heroy, who’s looking for a local source for sweet Lebanon bologna, Norma Melchiori faxed that apparently one doesn’t exist, but she recommended Daniel Weaver Co. in Lebanon, Pa., which can be reached at (717) 274-6100. …

Ditto for Susan Reale, who’s looking for brick cheese; Steve Zuelsdorf recommended www.WidmersCheese.com (888-878-1107). …

Ditto, as well, for Frank Meyer, who’s looking for frozen meat pasties. Rose McKie recommended Pasty Central at www.Pasty.com (877-727-8911). …

For Karen Trujillo, who’s looking for Durkee Six Pepper Blend Seasoning Mix, Bob and Sally Harnish of Yuma, Ariz., emailed that they sometimes find it at Sam’s Club, and also recommended www.YourFoodStore.com. …

For Joann Dejesus, Aaron Mantz emailed that she can find Goo Goo Clusters sold individually at 99 Cents Only stores and in boxes at Cracker Barrel, the nearest locations of which are in Kingman, Ariz., and St. George, Utah. …

And for readers who are looking for good doughnuts, Dave and Carol McLendon wrote to recommend Donuts & Kolaches at 4650 E. Sunset Road in Henderson (331-3000). …

More on instant polenta: The Jensens at Village Meat & Wine, 5025 S. Eastern Ave., said they carry it. …

Here are more reader requests.

Jean Jennings: grain pie, a traditional Italian dish usually made at Easter time;

Janet Denman: a local source for Williams Chili Seasoning;

Sheila Adkins: Gregg’s Savory Ranch Dressing and Black Angus pre-cooked microwaveable hamburgers, which she used to get at Costco;

David Whalen: a local source for Cincinnati favorites Glier’s Goetta and smoked pork cottage butt, or cottage ham;

Maureen Ely: a local source for Cole’s garlic bread;

Julie Miller: Wrangler hot dogs;

Erma Jackson: a local source for muscadine juice;

Kathryn McCulloch: a local source for canned creamery butter, preferably Ballantyne’s Golden Churn or Red Feather brand;

And Justin Leverette: Thingamajigs, which he says are “just like Watchamacallits but much better.”
