Halibut can be found in valley

Thanks to a high-power Canadian radio station, a Michigan restaurant chain’s jingle blew all over the Midwest during the ’60s and ’70s with many memorable lines, but one in particular: "I just go to Elias Brothers for the halibut." That came to mind when I received K.J. Howe’s request for halibut fish and chips — which, readers say, can be found in Las Vegas.

Victoria Wakefield recommended the "wonderful" halibut and chips at the Monte Carlo Brew Pub at the Monte Carlo, 3770 Las Vegas Blvd. South, and Michele Bonelli suggested those served at the Big Sur Oyster Bar at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Russ Morgan e-mailed that Arctic Circle Restaurants sell halibut fish and chips, adding "the only catch is that the closest location is in St. George," Utah. Then again, he added, you can get some fry sauce while you’re there, which he recommends on the fish and chips. And Patrick Smith e-mailed that the Outside Inn, 9941 W. Charleston Blvd., uses walleye, but added, "it’s worth a try." …

For Billy Wyrick, who’s looking for powdered egg white, June Shook e-mailed that she has purchased it at Whole Foods Market at 100 S. Green Valley Parkway in Henderson (there are three other Whole Foods Markets in the valley) and Stephanie Low found it online at www.beprepared.com (or call 800-999-1863). And Jan Silverman and Shae Wilhite e-mailed that Wilton makes a meringue powder that can be used as a substitute for powdered egg white in some uses; it can be found in the cake-decorating sections of local Jo-Ann and Michaels stores. …

For Pat Hollingsworth, Kevin Stout e-mailed that Sun Vista Carne Asada marinade can be found at Vons at 6450 Sky Pointe Drive. …

For Cynthia Vigil, who’s looking for a hot and spicy soup called jampong, Cindy Burkley e-mailed that it’s served at JinMe BBQ restaurant at 953 E. Sahara Ave. in the Commercial Center. …

And for Nancy Weiner and Corinne Carter, who are looking for Campbell’s Manhattan Clam Chowder, Janine Williams e-mailed that the only place she has found it lately is online at www.Amazon.com. …

More on Italian beef: Mary Doty recommended Aurelio’s at 7660 W. Cheyenne Ave.; there’s another Aurelio’s at 10960 S. Eastern Ave. in Henderson. …

Reader requests: Silverman is looking for Just Add Salad salad dressing, which she used to find at Costco. …

Jerry Speck is looking for Limburger cheese — in a brick, not a jar — which he last found at Sunflower Farmer’s Market. …

Barbara Cowan is on the lookout for Stouffer’s Welsh Rarebit. …

Janece Podrebarac is looking for vegetable flakes in a 2-ounce shaker jar. …

And Bob Miller is looking for a restaurant that serves kidney pie.
