Grapples — apples that taste like grapes — are indeed available in local stores, readers assure Jean Lappin, although she may want to wait a while to get the best of the crop.

Stephanie St., Henderson; Kim Michaels suggested Smith’s, 5564 Camino al Norte, North Las Vegas; Ann McDonald found them at the commissary at Nellis Air Force Base; Leni Koliambas suggested Vons, 1940 Village Center Circle, and Smith’s, 2211 N. Rampart Blvd.; Marni Hammargren suggested Smith’s, 10600 Southern Highlands Parkway; Andrea Reed suggested Albertsons, 8350 W. Cheyenne Ave., and some Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets; and Eva Armstrong suggested Sunflower Farmer’s Market, 4020 S. Rainbow Blvd. (there’s another Sunflower at 3365 E. Tropicana Ave.).
