Elegant pastry shells found in valley

If you’ve ever seen sfogliatelle you’re not likely to forget them — beautiful pastries, ribbed and layered to resemble a clamshell (some say lobster shells; it depends on the pastry-maker), filled with a ricotta mixture lightly flavored with citrus. And, readers tell Nancy Nastasi, they’re available in Las Vegas.

Natalie Tantleff, Laura Ring and Nancy Viscardi recommended Albina’s Italian-American Bakery, 3035 E. Tropicana Ave.; Anita Miscimarra suggested Siena Deli at 2250 E. Tropicana Ave.; and Angela Romano Fotos said she found them last year at Vinny Boy’s Italian Deli, 3620 W. Sahara Ave. In all cases, I’d suggest calling ahead. …

For Barbara Speck, Terry Volpe e-mailed that she can find graham crackers dipped in dark or milk chocolate near the register at Whole Foods Market, Miscimarra suggested Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, which has several stores in the area, and Tantleff reported seeing them in a plastic tub at Trader Joe’s. …

For Marvin Feinburg, who’s looking for Claey’s old-fashioned hard candies, Rian Masterson and Blythe Matkin said they find them at the Bass Pro Shops, 8200 S. Dean Martin Drive, and Jackie Tipping suggested GoatFeathers at 1300 Wyoming St. in Boulder City. …

For Shirl Meade, Anita Lewy and Daniela Minsberg wrote that she can get mettwurst at the deli at Cafe Heidelberg, 610 E. Sahara Ave. …

For Mary Jo Sugden, Minsberg said she gets her garlic cheese from www.RogueCreamery.com (or call 866-396-4704). …

Also for Sugden, Lewy said she finds Campbell’s Cream of Shrimp soup at Wal-Mart, and Randy Kersten, director of operations at Glazier’s Food Marketplace, 8525 W. Warm Springs Road, said he carries it. …

And for Jean Barrie, looking for Colavita Marinara Sauce, Kersten said he carries that as well …
