Curiosity over finding cured meats? Readers can help

Well, it appears we have a cured-meatsapalooza today. Taste of the Town has had reader requests about corned beef, pastrami and corned beef tongue in the past few weeks, and today we have the results.

For Ken Stokes, who’s looking for pastrami made from the brisket, as opposed to the top or bottom round, Marla Zwick recommended Bagel Cafe at 301 N. Buffalo Drive and also said she found it at Smith’s at 10616 S. Eastern Ave. in Henderson. And Kara Hierro, the deli manager at Glazier’s Food Marketplace, 8626 W. Warm Springs Road, said they carry it.

For Vee Turner, who’s looking for a Jewish deli in north or central Las Vegas with good corned beef, Valerie Weinberg and Helene Gottlieb recommended the Bagel Cafe and also Weiss Restaurant, Deli and Bakery at 2744 N. Green Valley Parkway in Henderson, and Ann Brown and Claude Black recommended Harrie’s Bagelmania at 855 E. Twain Ave.

For Joan Ivins, Brown emailed that Glazier’s carries corned-beef tongue.

Two readers suggested other delis. Jan Visser recommends the Greenberg Deli at New York-New York, 3790 Las Vegas Blvd. South, for pastrami or corned beef. And Ed Bordenka said all three are available at the Carnegie Deli at The Mirage, 3400 Las Vegas Blvd. South, which he noted has a to-go counter where meats by the pound are sold. …

For Catherine Kosora, who’s looking for bottled unsweetened pomegranate green tea by The Republic of Tea, Judy Cvetkovic emailed that she orders it directly from the company, and added that it sometimes offers free shipping.

“I usually order the tea bags and make my own tea and find it cheaper to order than purchase at the store,” she says.

The company’s website is www.republicoftea.com, or call 800-298-4832. …

And for Craig Meireis, who’s looking for a local restaurant that serves elk, readers didn’t find the elk steak he was seeking, but Evelyn Austin reported finding a “nice elk burger” at the Mount Charleston Lodge, 5375 Kyle Canyon Road, and elk to prepare at home at The Butcher Block, which has locations at 6440 N. Durango Drive and 7625 S. Rainbow Blvd. …

And here’s a little tease to next week’s cover story: For all those who struggle to carve their turkey each year, we’ll have photos and instructions, and an online video, just in time for Thanksgiving.
