Dave Hause not keeping anything in, which is good

Dave Hause confronts adulthood with fists clenched, a child of the ’80s working hard to excavate buried dreams.

“I know how hard it is to keep it in,” Hause sings on “We Could Be Kings” from his open-book 2013 album “Devour,” and so he doesn’t really try to keep much of anything in at all.

The 35-year-old singer-songwriter’s background is in punk and hardcore bands such as Paint It Black and The Loved Ones, who he still plays with.

On his own, though, he pens muscular, heart-on-the-sleeve testimonials to a fading way of life, ranging in tenor from acoustic minimalism to growling bar rock.

“If you wanted us safe why would you (mess) with our heads?” he says to the authority figures of his youth on “The Great Depression,” still refusing to play it safe all these years later.
