MISS VERMONT, MISS NEW YORK GRAB PRELIM TITLES

Miss Vermont Ashley Wheeler took home the trophy for talent in Thursday night’s Miss America preliminary competition.

She wowed the judges with with her vocal performance of "God Bless America," during the third night of prelims at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Miss New York Leigh-Taylor Smith won the swimsuit competition.

The talent winners for the week were Miss Georgia Chasity Hardman, Miss Delaware Galen Giaccone and Wheeler.

Joining Leigh-Taylor as swimsuit winners were Miss Mississippi Christine Kozlowski and Miss Indiana Katie Stam.
