Blow out birthday candles with Mickey Hart

Sept. 11 isn’t a date with good connotations for most people. But it’s Mickey Hart’s birthday, and he’s been living with that for 70 years.

The Grateful Dead drummer and musical anthropologist will celebrate his 70th with a Wednesday show at Hard Rock Live, conjuring good vibrations all the way from outer and inner space.

Last year’s album “Mysterium Tremendum” pulled in astrophysicists to “sonify” information from radio telescopes around the world. This time, he’s wearing a device that will translate his brain waves into patterns that will be projected onto a screen during the show.

Hart also has a claim to the vibrations generated every day by the volcano in front of The Mirage, having updated the score for the tourist show in 2008.

“I still care about it. I check in all the time and make sure it’s running at peak strength,” he said last year.

Sounds like a fine place for Deadheads to gather and sing “Happy Birthday.” But the birthday drum circle for ticket holders will instead be on the Hard Rock Live’s patio at 6:30 p.m.
