‘North East’
The Strip and downtown may hog the spotlight, but North and East Las Vegas have their claims to fame, as illustrated in Left of Center Gallery’s “North East,” which explores the cultural attributes, communities and creative visions of 11 local artists with neighborhood connections. Jazz in the Park
The 27th season of Jazz in the Park rolls on with the “Sax Appeal” of smooth jazz saxophonist Kim Waters and keyboardist-composer Brian Simpson, who fuses jazz and R&B in his contemporary tunes. The Las Vegas Academy’s Jazz Combo joins the headliners for the free 6 p.m. Saturday show (seating begins at 5 p.m.) at the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. ‘Titus Andronicus Jr.’
The Onyx Theatre closes its 10th-anniversary season with a suitably warped world premiere: writer-director Troy Heard’s twisted tale of a recently divorced middle-school teacher who’s assigned to take over the spring play and decides to exorcise his demons (and win back his ex) by staging Shakespeare’s goriest drama. Henderson Symphony
The program’s titled “A Night at the Opera,” but it should really be “Operas,” as the orchestra (conducted by Dennis Doubin) plays arias, duets and ensembles from Verdi’s “La Traviata” and “Aida,” Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess,” Puccini’s “La Boheme” and more, performed by four guest soloists: sopranos Susannah Biller and Suzanne Vinnik, tenor Daniel Montenegro and baritone Austin Kness. ‘Dixie’s Tupperware Party’
Talk about multitasking. Catching a play — and purchasing some rainbow-colored storage containers while you watch — is as easy as attending “Dixie’s Tupperware Party,” which returns to The Smith Center’s Troesh Studio Theater on Tuesday. Fast-talking host Dixie Longate spins outrageous tales (for those older than 16), supervises audience participation — and gives away fabulous Tupperware — at 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, plus 7 p.m. May 20, 3 and 7 p.m. May 21 and 3 p.m. May 22.
