Starting at 6:15 p.m. Friday, fire dancers, fire handlers and other fire-related performers will start the final countdown for the burning of Lucky Lady Lucy, a giant wooden showgirl. It’s an homage of sorts to Northern Nevada’s annual Burning Man Festival. But it’s also to mark a new era for downtown and First Friday.
CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Utah Shakespeare Festival has announced plans to build a $26.5 million theater in an effort to lure more visitors and provide a greater economic boost to the region.
This joint — if you can call a place that cost half a billion bucks a “joint” — is impressive. Taken in from the outside, the Smith Center for the Performing Arts is a statement of opulence. Defined by its art deco/Hoover Dam-inspired exterior and its major accent note of Symphony Park, it visually lifts downtown Las Vegas onto its shoulders and carries it forward.
