First Friday to host harvest festival Sept. 5

For September, First Friday arts festival planners are set to put on a Harvest Festival celebrating the bounty of the fall season.

The festival is scheduled from 5 to 11 p.m. Sept. 5 at venues throughout the 18b Arts District in downtown Las Vegas. Admission is free, and free parking with shuttle service is available at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. Live entertainment, artists’ booths, food vendors and more are planned.

Local guerilla artist/builder Ruzo Logic plans to demonstrate his custom-built, eco-friendly gardening beds. He transforms industrial shipping palettes into raised urban garden beds.

Logic plans to display several examples through the building process and invites the public to help decorate one of his unique pieces of sustainable art during the event.

Artwork, face painting and dance lessons are planned from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Kids Zone. Kids also may enjoy a western zone featuring country-inspired activities, including representatives from Horses 4 Heroes, a petting zoo and Helldorado cowboys.

The Green Street area is set to feature ideas on repurposing Halloween costumes.

The gallery is also seeking models to be RedRoom pinup girls to be professionally body painted and photographed. This First Friday is set to feature a Freebin. Those who wish to participate can bring items to give away (art supplies, DVD’s, baby clothes, old phones, etc.) to the Freebin station. If they see something they like, they can take it free. Everything left will be donated to Reclaimed Art Suppliez and Community Art Exchange, 1114 S. Casino Center Blvd., Suite 1. Downtown Spaces, 1800 Industrial Road, is set to be alive with art, music and more from 6 to 10 p.m., with an after-party slated at the HardHat Lounge, 1675 Industrial Road. The highlight is expected to be the grand opening of Cerebro Studios, an art gallery serving as the headquarters for the creative collective known as Brain Jelly Music. The ISI Group gallery is also set to have its grand opening. Additional Downtown Spaces activities scheduled include an art show by Crystal Taylor at Wasteland Gallery, with special musical guests. New art is set to be shown at the Spectral Gallery, an exhibition space and studio owned by local artists Jska Priebe and Mike and Dasha Biggs. “We Become Monsters” creator Chris Moore plans to display his handmade resin toys. The Juniper Gallery is set to feature work by a variety of artists, including Matt Ortego, Erika Allison and Alejandro Aranda.
