Review-Journal carrier’s vehicle shot while on route

Updated September 26, 2017 - 5:49 pm

A Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper carrier’s vehicle was shot nine times while out on a route Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened about 1:30 a.m. on the 500 block of Byrnes Avenue, near H Street and Owens Avenue, Metropolitan Police Department said.

Police spokesman Larry Hadfield said he had no information on a shooter or motive Tuesday afternoon. Hadfield said police found bullet impacts to the vehicle, adding the vehicle was “incapacitated.”

Nobody was hurt in the shooting, but the carrier was “badly shaken,” said Chris Blaser, Review-Journal vice president of audience and circulation.

“We do not believe the carrier was targeted personally and will be offering signage and flashing yellow lights to identify them as delivery carriers in the future,” Blaser said in a statement.

He said the vehicle was shot nine times.

The carrier was out on a route with his wife during the shooting, field service manager Dennis Serra said.

Review-Journal carriers are independent contractors.
