Police investigating shooting in northwest Las Vegas

Updated July 3, 2019 - 7:31 pm

A man was hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday after a shooting in a condominium complex in northwestern Las Vegas, police said.

Officers were called after multiple reports of a shooting about 3 p.m. at the Desert Shores Villas complex, 3151 N. Soaring Gulls Drive, near West Cheyenne Avenue and North Rampart Boulevard. When officers arrived they found a man shot in the doorway of one of the units, Metropolitan Police Department homicide Sgt. Jon Scott said outside the scene Wednesday evening.

The man, who is in his 20s, was taken to University Medical Center in “very critical” condition, suffering from at least one gunshot wound, Scott said. Homicide detectives were investigating Wednesday evening because of the severity of the man’s injuries, he said.

Detectives are searching for two men, believed to be in their early 20s, in connection with the shooting. The men were seen leaving the complex in a light-colored, four-door sedan, Scott said.

He said the man apparently was shot with a handgun after he “met someone at the door, and it happened in the doorway.” Other people were in the apartment at the time and called 911.

Police on Wednesday evening had not determined a motive in the shooting, Scott said.

“This area is covered with surveillance video, so we’ll be reviewing everything,” he said.

Further information about the shooting was not immediately available.
