Police: Man dead after being shot by officer in southwest Las Vegas
A man is dead after he was shot by a Metropolitan Police Department officer Saturday afternoon in southwest Las Vegas.
Metro Capt. Esmeralda Boveda said police received a call just before 2 p.m. about an “armed suicidal individual” on the 6100 block of Allen Cove Court, which is near the 215 Beltway and Russell Road.
After arriving in the area in response to the call, Boveda said officers heard one gunshot coming from a residence, though she did not say whether anyone was struck by the apparent shot.
“As (they officers) continued approaching the residence, they encountered the armed individual and began to attempt to establish dialogue,” Boveda said. “During their efforts, the male pointed his firearm at a group of officers. A nearby officer who observed these actions discharged his firearm, striking the suspect.”
In a news release sent out at about 7 p.m. Saturday, Metro said the armed man had exited the residence and “refused to drop” the firearm he was holding.
After being shot, the man was taken to a local hospital and later was pronounced dead. The victim’s identity had not been released as of Saturday evening.
No officers were injured during the incident, police said. The identity of the officer involved will be released after 48 hours, police said in a news release.
It was Metro’s second officer-involved shooting on 2025, the release said.
