One person wounded in northeast Las Vegas shooting
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a nonfatal shooting that took place Thursday morning in the northeast valley.
At least one man was shot after an argument escalated around 11:30 a.m. in front of a corner store in the 3800 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard near Walnut Street,, Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.
Two people in a dark-colored sport utility vehicle began arguing with another pair in a silver sedan. At least one suspect began shooting into a car, but Meltzer said she couldn’t say for sure which of the two cars was shot at until the investigation ends.
Another man at the scene, whom Meltzer called a “concerned citizen,” also got involved when he pulled his own gun and also began shooting. He stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police, she said.
After the shooting, both cars sped from the scene. The pair in the SUV, a man and a woman, crashed into another vehicle in the intersection of Lake Mead and Walnut. They ran away and were at large as of 3:30 p.m. The people in the other vehicle weren’t hurt.
The silver sedan was found abandoned along the street, but police in the air and on the ground later found two men walking through a wash in the area. One of the men was detained; the other was taken to University Medical Center with at least one nonlife-threatening gunshot wound.
Lake Mead was closed between Gateway and Pecos roads, and Walnut was closed between Tonopah and Carey avenues at midday as police investigated and searched for the other two people involved.
