North Las Vegas police identify suspect in tow yard shooting

Updated August 2, 2019 - 1:59 pm

North Las Vegas police have identified a tow-truck driver accused in a shooting Thursday night at a tow yard that left a man in “very critical” condition.

Jason Damon Harris, 28, faces two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon and one count each of battery with a deadly weapon and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, court and jail records show.

About 8 p.m. Thursday, the 28-year-old male victim went to a towing yard with his father on the 4200 block of Donovan Way, near Losee and Craig roads, to pick up his vehicle, said North Las Vegas Police Department spokesman Eric Leavitt.

The man and Harris got into a disagreement about the towing fees that eventually turned physical before they were pulled apart.

As the victim and his father were pulling out of the tow yard, Harris allegedly fired at least one shot into their vehicle, striking the victim who was sitting in the front passenger seat, according to police. His father sped away and called 911.

As of Friday afternoon, the man remained hospitalized at University Medical Center, where he was “fighting for his life,” Leavitt said.

Harris also fled from the tow yard but was detained shortly thereafter and booked into the Las Vegas Detention Center, where he remained in custody Friday awaiting his initial court appearance, according to jail records.
