Updated June 14, 2022 - 9:46 pm

Three people were injured in a shooting Tuesday night near the north Strip, police said.

The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. in the 2400 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South, near West Sahara Avenue. A suspected gunman was taken into custody, according to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Brian Boxler.

He said two people were shot and one other person at the scene suffered minor injuries not caused by gunfire. The two people shot were taken to local hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately provided.

Captain Joshua Bitsko said the suspect stole a sweatshirt from a nearby gift shop and was confronted by security, before the gunman opened fire striking a security guard.

“A struggle ensued and the suspect was also struck with gunfire while wrestling with the security guards on the ground,” Bitsko said.

He said it was unknown whether the suspect was struck by a bullet from their own firearm while wrestling with security or if a security guard shot the suspect.

The suspect was in custody at the hospital as of 7:30 p.m., according to Bitsko.

The Regional Transportation Commission said around 9 p.m. that all lanes were open on Las Vegas Boulevard at Sahara Avenue.
