1 man dead after domestic-related shooting in Las Vegas

Updated May 12, 2018 - 6:14 pm

A woman is in custody Saturday after a shooting that left her boyfriend dead inside the central Las Vegas Valley apartment they shared.

An hourslong argument that police said turned violent culminated in the deadly shooting at the Bella Vita apartment complex on the 5300 block of River Glen Drive, near South Decatur Boulevard and West Harmon Avenue.

The man, in his 30s, died at the scene, police said.

The Metropolitan Police Department was notified of the domestic dispute just before 9:30 a.m. The couple “separated for a while,” Lt. Dustin Butler said, before several more 911 calls came in around noon reporting that the man and woman were fighting again.

Among those callers was the woman, who had called to report that she was involved “in a physical disturbance and she had shot her boyfriend,” homicide Lt. Ray Spencer said Saturday near the scene of the shooting.

The woman in her late 20s was taken into custody when patrol officers arrived at the otherwise quiet apartment complex. Spencer said officers quickly cleared the apartment unit and determined that no one else was home at the time of the shooting.

The woman was still being interviewed by homicide detectives late Saturday afternoon.

It was not clear whether she would face charges in connection with the shooting, but Spencer said that the woman told detectives there was a struggle before the shooting.

The man who was killed will be identified by the Clark County coroner’s office once his family has been notified. According to records maintained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the man’s death marked the 79th homicide in Clark County this year, and the 66th investigated by Metro.
