1 dead, 1 injured after shooting in east valley

A man died and a woman was injured after a Saturday morning shooting at a bar in the east valley.

Police responded to reports of a shooting just after 7 a.m. Saturday to the OK Corral bar, 1602 N. Nellis Blvd. Arriving officers found a man who was shot two to three times. A waitress at the bar also was shot once in the leg, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Dan McGrath said.

The man shot, in his 20s, died on the scene; the woman shot was taken to University Medical Center in stable condition. She was expected to be released later Saturday, McGrath said.

The initial investigation indicates the shooting happened after a physical confrontation between the man shot and the suspected shooter inside the bar, Metro said in a statement. Police believe he may have left the bar but returned with the handgun and fired four to six shots.

Police said they believe the employee was hit unintentionally.

A security guard at the bar chased the suspect through the parking lot and into a nearby neighborhood, but the suspect escaped, McGrath said.

Police describe the suspected shooter as a light-skinned Hispanic man in his 20s with prescription glasses and a ponytail. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans, McGrath said.

Police are seeking assistance from the more than 30 people who were at the bar during the shooting to help identify the suspect and piece together the events leading up to the slaying. McGrath particularly urged the woman in a white car who was seen dropping the suspect off at the bar before the shooting to come forward. Anyone with information can call Metro’s homicide section at 702-828-3521.

The Clark County coroner will identify the man who died after his next of kin has been notified.

This is the 11th homicide investigated by Metro and the 13th homicide in Clark County in 2017.
