Man arrested after boy trapped in Las Vegas store bathroom

Updated February 9, 2018 - 6:02 pm

A man who is accused of trapping a boy in a Target restroom late last year is a suspect in another sex crime.

Nicholas Donovan was arrested Jan. 23 on one count of luring a child or mentally ill person to engage in a sex act. Court records show that the incident happened on Nov. 2, 2017, but details surrounding the case were not immediately available.

Court records show that Donovan was placed on house arrest Jan. 25. But the 21-year-old man was rebooked Thursday into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of lewdness with a child younger than 14 after Las Vegas police identified him as a suspect in a Nov. 24 sex crime.

On Nov. 24, police said, a young boy was trapped in a Target restroom at Boca Park, 8750 W. Charleston Blvd. Police said a family was shopping at the store when a member of the family, a young boy, went into the restroom and stayed there “for some time,” according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

A relative went to go check on the boy just as he was leaving the restroom, police said. As the family was walking out of the store, the boy told a parent that a man had trapped him in the restroom and had refused to let him leave.

The family reported the incident to employees, police said, but the man was already gone. They contacted police three days later, and detectives from Metro’s sexual assault section found images of a person of interest taken by surveillance cameras in the store.

Donovan is being held at the Clark County Detention Center without bail.

Anyone with information about the Nov. 24 incident may contact Metro’s sexual assault section at 702-828-3421 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
