Clark County school bus driver arrested on sexual misconduct charges
A substitute bus driver with the Clark County School District was arrested Monday on two counts of sexual misconduct, two counts of kidnapping and one count of use of a minor for child pornography.
The driver, Dominique Joiner, 24, is accused of having a relationship with a Northwest Career and Technical Academy student, according to a statement from the school district announcing the arrest on Tuesday. A parent told police that the student is a 17-year-old girl, Clark County School District Police Capt. Ken Young said.
As a sub driver working primarily in the northwest area, Joiner may have met the student on one of his routes, Young said Tuesday.
Joiner has been suspended without pay, the district said. He was hired by the district in October 2015.
Joiner is being held at the Clark County Detention Center on $125,000 bail.
He is the 13th school district employee arrested since July on charges involving sexual misconduct or inappropriate behavior with a student. The issue was thoroughly explored in the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s recent Broken Trust series.
Joiner furthered his relationship with the student through social media and electronic communication, according to the CCSD statement.
The Clark County School District’s lack of a social media policy is one of the key findings highlighted in the three-part series on sexual misconduct involving staffers and students. Eight of the suspects fostered their relationships with students through texting or social media, according to police records.
Earlier this year, the district created a 27-member internal working group to work on a social media policy, which is expected to be unveiled at a public meeting on June 15. The time and place of the meeting has yet to be announced.
