Suspect in armed robbery nabbed near Las Vegas Strip casino

Updated July 11, 2019 - 12:26 pm

A Las Vegas police helicopter assisted officers on Wednesday night in apprehending a man wanted in connection with an armed robbery from February.

Officers spotted the man about 9:20 p.m. while on the 3600 block of West Tropicana Avenue, near South Valley View Boulevard, Metropolitan Police Lt. David Gordon said. Officers tried pulling over the white Mercedes SUV he was driving near Blue Diamond Road and Interstate 15, but he didn’t stop, Gordon said.

Metro’s helicopter watched the car from above as it drove through the southern part of the valley, he said. The driver entered I-15 south and drove toward the border before making a U-turn and heading north on the highway.

The vehicle tried to evade police, exited the interstate and headed to Circus Circus where the suspect and an unidentified man tried to flee.

Police took the man wanted for robbery into custody, but the other man was able to escape. Police were still searching for that man as of early Thursday.

Review-Journal staff writer Mike Shoro contributed to this report.
