Las Vegas police rule out explosive device in bank robbery, street reopens
Las Vegas police are investigating a bank robbery in the western valley.
Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the U.S. Bank, 3330 S. Hualapai Way, just after 9:30 a.m.
A man entered the bank wearing a mask and had a firearm, Metro officer Michael Rodriguez said.
“We don’t know what, if anything, the male got away with,” Rodriguez said.
The man then left a backpack inside the bank that he indicated was an explosive device, police said.
“Believing the satchel to contain an explosive device, the bank was evacuated where technicians quickly determined there was no such device,” according to a Metro news release.
Nearby businesses also were evacuated. No injuries were reported, and no one is in custody.
Police said the robber, who fled in a silver compact sedan, was between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 9 inches with a thin build. His race is not known.
Hualapai Way was shut down between West Desert Inn and West Spring Mountain roads while police investigated the robbery and the alleged explosive device. In a tweet around noon, Metro reported that the street had reopened.
