Las Vegas police arrest teacher in theft of school property

Updated April 27, 2018 - 2:53 pm

A Clark County School District special education teacher arrested in connection with the theft of school property is suspected of pawning stolen Apple iPads, a police document shows.

Las Vegas police on Thursday arrested Amanda Mirkovich, 42, on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, grand larceny and obtaining money under false pretenses.

She and her boyfriend, 41-year-old Robert Oseguera, are accused of pawning the iPads this month. Oseguera is accused of similar crimes.

Mirkovich joined the school district in August 2013 and was assigned to Tate Elementary School for the past three years, the district said in a statement Friday. The investigation into Mirkovich revealed that because she was in charge of the elementary school’s iPads, she had full access to the inventory.

According to her arrest report, Mirkovich stole at least three iPads. Police say she and Oseguera had placed black stickers on the backs of the tablets in an attempt to hide the engraving, “Property of Clark County School District.”

Police said at least one of the three iPads had been pawned by Oseguera, who admitted to police that he had restored the iPads to their factory settings before they were sold, the arrest report said.

Mirkovich told police “she would never take anything from the school,” her arrest report said.

Once Mirkovich is released from custody, her employment status will be listed as “assigned to home,” according to the school district.

The couple are being held at the Clark County Detention Center, jail records show.
