Woman killed in downtown Henderson

Updated October 8, 2021 - 6:01 pm

A woman was killed Wednesday morning after a shooting near downtown Henderson, police said.

Officers were called at 7:40 a.m. to Brown Street, near North Water Street and East Lake Mead Parkway, according to a statement from the Henderson Police Department released Thursday.

Investigators believe the woman had been the victim of a domestic killing, police said without providing further details about what happened.

The Clark County coroner’s office identified the woman as Michell Armstrong, 38, of Henderson. She died in the bedroom of a home from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police had identified at least one suspect, the statement said, but no arrests had been made as of Thursday afternoon.

Family members said Armstrong’s boyfriend was booked on a murder charge, but Henderson police could not be reached for comment Friday.

“She left behind beautiful children who will miss her dearly,” her niece Melissa Odom wrote to the Review-Journal. “She was doing all she could for those kids and loved them with everything she could.”

Armstrong’s cousin Dawn Kenney said the girls grew up in Kansas surrounded by several female cousins who went roller skating and dancing together. Dozens would gather at their grandparent’s house on Herington Lake for sleepovers.

“Us cousins were pretty close during our younger years,” Kenney said.

Armstrong recently had been spending her time caring for her four children and her grandchild.
