Victim, suspect identified in Las Vegas road rage shooting
A 68-year-old man killed Thursday night in a road-rage shooting inside a gated community in the far northwest Las Vegas Valley has been identified by the Clark County coroner.
Lloyd Ullyott was fatally shot about 7:15 p.m. Thursday on Swamp Rose Avenue inside the Ft. Apache Square gated neighborhood, near Fort Apache Road and Grand Teton Drive.
Metropolitan Police Department homicide Lt. Dan McGrath said Ullyott and another man, both driving pickup trucks, were involved in a road-rage incident that started near the gated entrance and continued as they drove into the community.
The suspected shooter, later identified as 62-year-old Jim Reed Davis, honked his horn because Ullyott was braking often and driving very slowly, McGrath said. The two drivers stopped their trucks in the middle of Swamp Rose Avenue before Ullyott got out of his truck and approached Davis’ truck with a raised hand as if to hit him, he said.
Police said Davis, who was inside his truck with two family members, fired one shot from a handgun stored in the vehicle.
“He said he felt threatened,” according to McGrath. Ullyott was struck in the head and died on the scene.
Davis called 911 to report the shooting. Jail records show he was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of open murder.
Ullyott’s death marks the 138th homicide in Clark County this year and the 115th investigated by Metro.
