Suspect in 2 Henderson killings extradited to Clark County

Two years after he opened fire on San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies and was arrested in California, a suspect in a Henderson double-homicide investigation has been extradited to Clark County, Henderson police announced Thursday.

Roger Tindell, 38, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Wednesday without bail, jail records show. He’s suspected in the killings of 40-year-old Robin McComb and 28-year-old Mellisa Mason, whose bodies were found in a Henderson home the night of Oct. 12, 2018, the Henderson Police Department has said.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Tindell was arrested after he led police on a car chase and shot at deputies early on Oct. 17, 2018, near Yucca Valley, California. Tindell also was a suspect in the shooting of a man in California, which prompted the chase and gunfire exchange with deputies, the Sheriff’s Department has said.

Hours after he exchanged gunfire with deputies, during which Tindell was shot at least once, Henderson police announced that he had been identified as a suspect in the killings of McComb and Mason. The man and woman were found after officers were called to conduct a welfare check at a home on the 400 block of Forest Street, near Major Avenue and Warm Springs Road.

Before Tindell was announced as a suspect, Henderson police said the motive in the killings was unknown. The Clark County coroner’s office said both were pronounced dead in the home. The cause of death was listed as blunt force head injuries, and their deaths were ruled homicides.

It remained unclear Thursday how police in 2018 identified Tindell as a suspect in the killings, or if police had found a motive.

It also was unclear how Tindell ended up in Yucca Valley, California, which is about 200 miles southwest of Las Vegas.

Just before 2:15 a.m. on Oct. 17, 2018, a shooting was reported at a home in Yucca Valley, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has said. When officials arrived at the home, they found a 43-year-old man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Tindell left the scene of the shooting, fleeing in a silver BMW with a woman who was armed, the Sheriff’s Department said. When deputies tried to stop the BMW, Tindell allegedly sped off and led them on a chase through the Yucca and Morongo valleys.

He shot at deputies during the chase, prompting them to fire back, the Sheriff’s Department said in 2018.

During a Facebook livestream of what appeared to be the chase, Tindell yelled at police to “back off” or he would shoot the pregnant woman he claimed to be holding hostage. The woman was heard in the video telling him to drive faster, at one point saying, “Now I have to raise our son alone.”

The chase ended when Tindell crashed into a patrol car. After the crash, Tindell again exchanged gunfire with deputies and was shot.

In 2018 the Sheriff’s Department said Tindell would face charges including attempted murder and felony evading in connection with the shooting of the 43-year-old man and the shooting with deputies. It was not immediately clear Thursday if Tindell had been convicted of any charges related to the shootings.

Tindell remained in the downtown Las Vegas jail on Thursday, jail records show. He faces two counts of murder in Henderson Justice Court.
