Second of 2 shootings at Las Vegas apartment complex is deadly

Updated July 26, 2019 - 10:04 am

As police were investigating a shooting Thursday night at a west Las Vegas apartment complex, a fatal shootout erupted on the opposite end of the complex.

Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives on Friday were still investigating whether the two shootings, which occurred about five hours apart at the Sundance Village Apartments, were related.

At 10:26 p.m., investigators at the complex at 6500 W. Charleston Blvd., between Rainbow and Jones boulevards, heard gunfire coming from the other side of the complex.

Police determined that one man apparently was chased through the complex parking lot by another man, and that they were shooting at each other as they ran.

One of the men, who officers found in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds, died at University Medical Center’s trauma unit. His death was the 80th homicide this year in Clark County and the 59th investigated by Metro, according to records maintained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The Clark County coroner’s office will identify him once his family has been notified.

The shooter left before officers made it to the other side of the complex. As of Friday, an arrest had not been made, police said.

A motive in the shooting also remained unclear.

Around 5:15 p.m., officers were flagged down by a person who had been shot multiple time at the complex, Metro Lt. Adrian Beas said at the time.

That victim was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Anyone with information on either of the shootings may call Metro’s homicide section at 702-828-3521, or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
