Rise in Las Vegas Valley homicides means police solving fewer cases

Las Vegas homicide detectives considered 80 percent of their cases cleared by the end of 2015. Though Metro is trailing now, Lt. Dan McGrath said he expects a clearance rate of 75 percent by the end of this year. Valleywide, 60 percent of homicides have been cleared.

By the end of June, police throughout the valley had responded to a total 103 homicides, up from 64 during the first six months of 2015. A Las Vegas Review-Journal analysis of those deaths showed that most victims were under the age of 40 and most suspects were under 30.
